After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The Jones reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. On value alone, Cooper makes the weekend a net positive.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
In pick 27 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Cooper DeJean worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Ja'Tavion Sanders in Round 2, Pick 8, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Edgerrin Cooper in slot 67 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Patrick Paul at No. 78. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Roger Rosengarten, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They went early on Justin Eboigbe in Round 5, Pick 3, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Xavier Thomas in pick 152, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Matthew Jones this early at slot 222. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
