The Bears torched the value chart for Jalen Travis, taking him 47 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Lachey pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value.
Nick Emmanwori in pick 39 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
Somehow Kenneth Grant was still sitting there in slot 41, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Anthony Belton in Round 3, Pick 12 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
A reach on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in No. 148; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wild overpay on Kyle Williams in No. 150, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Luke Lachey in slot 233 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Travis in Round 7, Pick 24 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
