Chicago Bears

The Bears turned the phones into found money: B+.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Fadil Diggs at slot 148 is 84 spots clear of where he belonged.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On value alone, Reed makes the weekend a net positive.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.10 · Pick 10 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
Nice patience on Ashton Jeanty, who had no business lasting to pick 10. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Grey Zabel · OT · rank 33
Grey Zabel in No. 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 55
The board had cheaper options than Alfred Collins at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Jaylin Noel · WR · rank 61
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylin Noel at the 72nd overall pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Darius Alexander · DT · rank 93
Darius Alexander in slot 76 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.10 · Pick 148 · Fadil Diggs · DL-EDGE · rank 232
Fadil Diggs at the 148th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.12 · Pick 150 · Ajani Cornelius · OT · rank 174
Ajani Cornelius in the 150th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 190
Jaylen Reed at No. 204 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.17 · Pick 233 · Robert Longerbeam · CB · rank 219
They let Robert Longerbeam come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.24 · Pick 240 · Cody Lindenberg · LB · rank 256
They went early on Cody Lindenberg in the 240th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
