If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Fadil Diggs at slot 148 is 84 spots clear of where he belonged.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On value alone, Reed makes the weekend a net positive.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Ashton Jeanty, who had no business lasting to pick 10. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Grey Zabel in No. 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had cheaper options than Alfred Collins at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylin Noel at the 72nd overall pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Darius Alexander in slot 76 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fadil Diggs at the 148th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ajani Cornelius in the 150th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylen Reed at No. 204 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They let Robert Longerbeam come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Cody Lindenberg in the 240th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
