The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Caleb Douglas, taking him 36 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Golday. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, and a steal at that.
Lee Hunter at pick 46 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 60th overall pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Connor Lew slid further than he should have, and No. 91 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Eli Stowers in slot 92 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
They let Daylen Everette come to them and pounced at pick 96. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Jake Golday still on the board at Round 4, Pick 16. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Dametrious Crownover in the 129th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They went early on Eli Heidenreich in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Trey Zuhn III went about where he belonged in pick No. 239. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Caleb Douglas this early at No. 241. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
