The Bears did not so much draft Isaac TeSlaa as overpay for him, 42 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Walker at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Warren in Round 1, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
In pick No. 14 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalon Walker at slot 39 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Malaki Starks slipping to the 41st overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A slide stopped in the 45th pick, with Omarion Hampton worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Charles Grant at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ty Robinson in No. 138 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Logan Brown at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Isaac TeSlaa at slot 192, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
