The Bears spent real capital to be 123 picks early on Aidan Hubbard, and the board is going to hold them to it. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wright falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
D'Angelo Ponds is a better player than the 57th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Jacob Rodriguez higher than the Round 2 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Zakee Wheatley at slot 89 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kaytron Allen. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jeremiah Wright at pick No. 239 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Aidan Hubbard at slot 241, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
