Chicago Bears

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Bears.

Nobody else had Luke Altmyer anywhere near No. 241. The Bears did, by 32 spots, and that gap is the whole story. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Allen value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Quantity was the play, for better or worse. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.11 · Pick 43 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 40
Nothing to complain about; Emmanuel McNeil-Warren went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · CJ Allen · LB · rank 32
CJ Allen at the 57th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Dani Dennis-Sutton · DE-EDGE · rank 86
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick No. 60 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 96
They paid sticker price for Bryce Lance in slot 89, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Sam Hecht · C · rank 92
Sam Hecht is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Tacario Davis · CB · rank 111
Tacario Davis at pick 115 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Kaleb Proctor · DL · rank 135
No drama and no debate, Kaleb Proctor went about where he belonged in pick No. 129. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Julian Neal · CB · rank 119
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Julian Neal in Round 4, Pick 30. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.3 · Pick 143 · Kaytron Allen · RB · rank 149
A straight-up fair deal on Kaytron Allen at No. 143, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.14 · Pick 154 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 164
A reach for Nate Boerkircher in the 154th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 235
Zavion Thomas in the Round 7 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Luke Altmyer · QB · rank 273
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke Altmyer. It fills a real need, too.
