The Bears did not so much draft Max Bredeson as overpay for him, 137 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Price.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a three-down second-level presence at fair value. A real need, handled.
They reached into another round for Dani Dennis-Sutton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A.J. Haulcy at pick No. 60 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board fumbled Jadarian Price all the way to No. 91, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Parker Brailsford at the 129th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Zane Durant at Round 5, Pick 28 when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Max Bredeson well ahead of where he belonged. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A wild overpay on Logan Taylor in the 239th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Fa'alili Fa'amoe at the 241st pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
