The Bears put a flag in the ground for Dominic Zvada, 53 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Hill Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Jake Brendel pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
Sonny Styles is a better player than No. 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Anthony Hill Jr. in pick No. 57 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A slide stopped in the 89th pick, with Mike Washington Jr. worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Zuhn III. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Bishop Fitzgerald was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 33. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reach for Jaeden Roberts in pick 138; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kaleb Proctor at Round 4, Pick 39 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached a country mile for Nolan Rucci at the 239th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Thaddeus Dixon slipping to slot 241 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Adam Randall in pick No. 246 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dominic Zvada this early at the Round 7 slot. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Value said wait; Emmanuel Henderson Jr. in the 257th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
