The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They will need Rogers to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Barton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 1 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 16 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A real need, handled.
Graham Barton slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 11. It fills a real need, too.
Nelson Ceaser in pick No. 110 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Melton at slot 122 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Justin Rogers enough to skip the value, taking him in the 146th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
