The one they had to fix is still broken. The Chargers left edge rusher untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Jackson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Reaching for Coleman left real value on the table behind him. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in pick 44. A minor itch, scratched.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Denzel Burke at the Round 3 slot is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kiran Amegadjie is a better player than slot 112 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 13 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They went early on Brandon Coleman in No. 190, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Omar Speights at the 233rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
