You could see the war room lean forward. Jha'Quan Jackson at Round 7, Pick 22 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Powers-Johnson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper Beebe in pick No. 85. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Keith Randolph Jr. in slot 158, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Fair-plus on Javon Baker, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Jones at the 199th pick squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Jha'Quan Jackson at the 242nd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
