Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins answered their biggest question with Maye. Grade: D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Dolphins did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The cost of the Rice reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In pick 3 they get a franchise quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 21
In slot 21 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 38
Chop Robinson at Round 2, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 71
A big swing on Brenden Rice at pick No. 53, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 70
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the 68th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 99
Blake Fisher at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 149
They liked Ty'Ron Hopper enough to skip the value, taking him in the 139th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 147
Jaylin Simpson is a better player than No. 158 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
Somehow Braelon Allen was still sitting there in slot 182, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.24 · Pick 199 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 196
Jared Wiley in pick No. 199 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 239
Eric Gentry at the 242nd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
