You build a draft on nights like this. Tahj Brooks had no business being available in the 230th pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The Thomas pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 12 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tate Ratledge in the 76th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Devin Neal at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jake Majors in No. 168 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Chris Paul Jr. at slot 171 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
CJ West at pick No. 173 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Danny Stutsman at the 186th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Miles Frazier in No. 226 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Tahj Brooks was still sitting there in pick 230, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Omari Thomas at pick No. 248 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
