Somebody took the Chargers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
Jones falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
If Malik Nabers and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy bit of business in slot 37, where Kamari Lassiter graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 69. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Braden Fiske in the 78th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Zak Zinter slipping to the 106th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Cedric Gray at No. 139 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Fair-plus on Will Shipley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Christian Jones in pick 223, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Myles Jones at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
