Los Angeles Chargers

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chargers.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chargers spent Round 6, Pick 6 on Nathaniel Watson, a name the board had a full 32 spots lower. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Landing Anthony that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 16
In slot 11 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 23
Kool-Aid McKinstry at Round 1, Pick 31 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 38
Xavier Legette in pick 37 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 72
Sedrick Van Pran in the 69th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 106
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 96
A slide stopped in No. 105, with Brenden Rice worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 128
Isaac Guerendo at the 110th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 148
Justin Eboigbe at pick 131 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 141
By-the-book stuff, Ainias Smith at No. 140 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 213
A big swing on Nathaniel Watson at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.40 · Pick 215 · Jaden Crumedy · DT · rank 226
They liked Jaden Crumedy enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 215. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Jalen Coker · WR · rank 250
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Coker in the 225th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Daijahn Anthony · CB · rank 237
Nice patience on Daijahn Anthony, who had no business lasting to slot 253. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
