Somebody in the 164th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Deontae Lawson, the No. 82 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Every board in the league had Presley lower, and that gap is the story. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that.
A tidy bit of business in the 53rd pick, where Tyler Booker graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Andrew Mukuba in Round 3, Pick 20 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jake Majors in pick 136 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Deontae Lawson all the way to No. 164, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Tahj Brooks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 198th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Brennan Presley in pick No. 235 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
