It is the swing that defines the weekend: Akheem Mesidor in the 235th overall pick, a good 98 spots before the room expected him.
Landing Smith that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Their trades came out a wash either way.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Dylan Fairchild. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Gunnar Helm, who had no business lasting to the 84th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Jake Majors at the 92nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tez Johnson in pick 120 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Brashard Smith at pick No. 164 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
