There is reaching, and then there is Michael Pratt at the 67th pick. The Commanders jumped the board by 35 and dared it to prove them wrong. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
It is not that Bishop is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.
Kinchens at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kamren Kinchens slipping to No. 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid up for Devontez Walker at pick No. 40 when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Michael Pratt in pick 67, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Khyree Jackson in the 100th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Cole Bishop adds a safety while offensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Value said wait; Jaylan Ford in No. 141 says they were not listening. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached into another round for Jawhar Jordan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tatum Bethune at the 223rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
