The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
In the 14th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Robinson at Round 2, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Malachi Corley in pick 61, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
McKinnley Jackson at slot 122 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mason McCormick in pick No. 145 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Jalyx Hunt went about where he belonged in No. 147. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
