Some picks age like wine; J.J. Weaver at the 236th overall pick will need to, sitting 98 spots clear of his grade. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Watts pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Xavier Watts was the payoff at the 61st pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at pick No. 79 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ollie Gordon II at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nohl Williams well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
J.J. Weaver in Round 7, Pick 20 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Shaun Dolac in slot 247 says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
