Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys let Eichenberg fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Tommy Eichenberg fell into No. 233. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

Reaching for Jean-Baptiste left real value on the table behind him. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 16
Taliese Fuaga at the 56th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
The board fumbled Payton Wilson all the way to pick 87, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Javontae Jean-Baptiste · DE-EDGE · rank 218
This one needs a full-page explanation: Javontae Jean-Baptiste in No. 174, miles early. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 229
A conviction pick on Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 216 that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 233 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Matt Lee · C · rank 275
Matt Lee in the 244th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
