The war room fell hard for Roger Rosengarten, and it showed at pick 91: 44 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Nubin. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Edgerrin Cooper slipping to pick No. 58 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at pick 88, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid a round early for Cam Hart in the 90th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Roger Rosengarten at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Value with a capital V on Elijah Jones in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Tanor Bortolini in slot 169, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cornelius Johnson at pick 202. It fills a real need, too.
Good price on Nathaniel Watson in No. 219, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dominique Hampton in the 245th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They read the board right and Marcellas Dial was the payoff at pick No. 255. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
