When the story of this class is written, it opens with Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 134, a reach of 48 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging. The McCaffrey steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 25
In the 28th pick they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
They jumped the gun on Edgerrin Cooper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 60
Malachi Corley in pick 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Maason Smith · DT · rank 111
Maason Smith at the 91st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 100
Cam Hart at pick No. 105 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 126
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beaux Limmer. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 182
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent No. 134 on Ty'Ron Hopper, a linebacker they were not short of.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
You do not let a wide receiver like Luke McCaffrey reach pick 169 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Myles Harden · CB · rank 209
Myles Harden at the 202nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 212
They did well to land Caedan Wallace in pick No. 219, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Dominique Hampton · S · rank 234
Dominique Hampton in slot 245 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.28 · Pick 248 · Donovan Jennings · OT · rank 238
The board had Donovan Jennings higher than the Round 7 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
