You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Bub Means at pick 219, roughly 26 spots before his name belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Grable steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in slot 41; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for Kiran Amegadjie in the 58th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had Max Melton higher than the 88th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaden Hicks in pick No. 91 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Isaac Guerendo at No. 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ty'Ron Hopper a notch or two before his time. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Garret Greenfield in the 202nd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Bub Means in No. 219, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Kalen DeLoach in the 245th overall pick, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Tylan Grable in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
