Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent pick No. 245 on Frank Crum, a name most had 50 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Magee pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Guyton in pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Junior Colson at slot 49 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Benson in the 58th pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Melton in the 88th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Maason Smith in No. 91 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Bishop at Round 3, Pick 34, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A premium they did not need to pay, Beaux Limmer a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Elijah Jones for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 33 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Curtis Jacobs in slot 202. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Bub Means in No. 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Frank Crum at pick No. 245, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Jordan Magee was still sitting there in pick 255, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
