When a board-topper like Max Melton slides to the Round 4 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
It is not that Bullard is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Terrion Arnold at pick No. 25 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tyler Nubin at Round 2, Pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Javon Bullard, a safety that was not the priority.
A quiet steal in pick 88: Ja'Lynn Polk for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cade Stover is a better player than slot 91 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Max Melton in the 126th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Sione Vaki was the payoff at No. 169. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Tahj Washington in the 202nd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at Round 6, Pick 44 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Sheridan Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 255 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
