Thirty-one other rooms let Graham Barton slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at Round 3, Pick 37. Highway robbery.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Gore Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The veteran additions, Ezra Cleveland chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Marvin Harrison Jr. and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Troy Fautanu in the 36th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 50th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Chris Braswell, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 3. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Graham Barton was still sitting there in pick 100, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Marshawn Kneeland in No. 102; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Frank Gore Jr. a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Jordan Magee here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
