Kansas City Chiefs

Carson should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Caelen Carson at No. 158 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 2 of 8 of the wish list covered. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 21
In pick No. 32 they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 32
You do not let a wide receiver like Adonai Mitchell reach the 64th pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 69
Ricky Pearsall at slot 95 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 79
Somehow Roman Wilson was still sitting there in the 133rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 85
Caelen Carson in pick 158 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 142
Taking Malik Mustapha in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 143
They robbed the room for Luke McCaffrey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.30 · Pick 250 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 219
Circle this one: Jawhar Jordan at No. 250 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
