The war room fell hard for Jaylan Ford, and it showed at No. 142: 35 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Barrett.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked Edgerrin Cooper enough to skip the value, taking him in the 50th pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at the 54th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Adisa Isaac at Round 2, Pick 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on Blake Corum in slot 89, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Braelon Allen at pick 137 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylan Ford this early at pick No. 142. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They robbed the room for Michael Barrett here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
