The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Jay Higgins, the No. 61 name on the board, sitting there at the 170th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Reaching for Ferguson left real value on the table behind him. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Mason Graham · DT · rank 8
In pick No. 13 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Kaleb Johnson · RB · rank 51
A reach for Kaleb Johnson in No. 42; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Alfred Collins · DL · rank 98
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Alfred Collins. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.13 · Pick 114 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 71
TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Cody Simon · LB · rank 119
Somehow Cody Simon was still sitting there in slot 149, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.31 · Pick 169 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 79
A safety of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 31 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 61
They will replay Jay Higgins at the 170th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 184
A premium they did not need to pay, Bryce Foster a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Davison Igbinosun · CB · rank 212
Davison Igbinosun at No. 186 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Lathan Ransom · S · rank 145
Lathan Ransom at Round 6, Pick 12 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.30 · Pick 205 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 140
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Raheim Sanders in pick 205, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Terrance Ferguson · TE · rank 282
They left a pile of value on the table to take Terrance Ferguson this early at the 210th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
