Dallas Cowboys

Grand theft in the 209th overall pick: the Cowboys steal Dart and grade out a C.

Future C+

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jaxson Dart, the No. 127 name on the board, stolen at the Round 6 slot. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.

The Slackman reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Adding Raekwon Davis by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Princely Umanmielen · DE-EDGE · rank 13
In pick No. 14 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. More want than need.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 65
They liked TreVeyon Henderson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Kenneth Grant · DL · rank 64
No drama and no debate, Kenneth Grant went about where he belonged in No. 60. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Ozzy Trapilo · OT · rank 105
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ozzy Trapilo well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Evan Stewart · WR · rank 97
Evan Stewart at pick 84 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Rylie Mills · DL · rank 118
Rylie Mills in the 113th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.13 · Pick 151 · Alfred Collins · DL · rank 228
A real head-scratcher, Alfred Collins in slot 151 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.17 · Pick 155 · Nazir Stackhouse · DL · rank 163
Nazir Stackhouse in the 155th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.31 · Pick 169 · Jonah Coleman · RB · rank 171
They paid sticker price for Jonah Coleman in pick 169, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Joey Slackman · DL · rank 250
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joey Slackman this early at pick No. 170. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.34 · Pick 172 · Logan Brown · OT · rank 184
A reach on Logan Brown in slot 172; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Shilo Sanders · S · rank 222
Shilo Sanders at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Jaxson Dart · QB · rank 127
They will replay Jaxson Dart at No. 209 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.38 · Pick 252 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 279
This one needs a full-page explanation: Oronde Gadsden II in Round 7, Pick 38, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
