The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Jaylin Simpson slide 46 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The Ulofoshio reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 30 they get a disruptive interior force. A clean fit for the roster.
Patrick Paul at Round 2, Pick 30 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Braelon Allen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 191, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 204 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Josh Proctor in slot 212 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Zion Nelson at par in the 251st pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
