You build a draft on nights like this. Cody Simon had no business being available in pick 209, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If Grimes pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A real need, handled.
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at pick No. 53. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and TreVeyon Henderson at the 76th overall pick is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Danny Stutsman in pick 120 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 13 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Oronde Gadsden II at slot 168 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a safety like Sonny Styles reach the 170th pick and blink. They did not. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Davison Igbinosun. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tony Grimes at pick No. 190 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cody Simon in slot 209 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
