The Omari Thomas pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 145 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Henderson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will answer for taking edge rusher early while cornerback and quarterback went begging. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a disruptor off the edge. More want than need.
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in slot 44, and they pounced on premier safety value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Alfred Collins at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Kaleb Johnson at No. 61 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Tez Johnson at pick No. 82 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 118 on Josaiah Stewart with cornerback and quarterback unsolved.
TreVeyon Henderson at pick 150 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bryce Foster. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Miles Frazier in slot 171 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 190th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Elijah Arroyo at pick No. 194 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Oscar Delp in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Omari Thomas in Round 6, Pick 25, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
