Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jaylen Wright at pick 77 is 81 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Hardy pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 40th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 44, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylen Wright at No. 77 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylan Ford at Round 5, Pick 2 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Eric Watts at par in the 190th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Christian Jones at slot 191 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Donovan Jennings. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Nathaniel Watson in the 218th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Daequan Hardy slid further than he should have, and pick No. 242 is lovely value for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
