There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Trevin Wallace a full 60 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Trey Benson at par in pick 87, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on McKinnley Jackson at the 89th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Trevin Wallace at pick No. 174, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Magee at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Bub Means in No. 233 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kimani Vidal a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
