Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Jordan Morgan was the payoff at the 36th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Chop Robinson in pick 40, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Zach Frazier in slot 67 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mike Sainristil at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Christian Haynes in the 102nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Dallin Holker at Round 5, Pick 5, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Ty'Ron Hopper still on the board at pick No. 181. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 223rd pick is the definition of value, full stop. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
