The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They are betting McCaffrey proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Jayden Daniels at No. 3 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Good price on Troy Fautanu in the 29th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 34, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 61; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Devontez Walker in the 68th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Luke McCaffrey in Round 4, Pick 3 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tommy Eichenberg at slot 137 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
