The Kingsley Eguakun selection is the head-turner. The Chargers reached 59 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting McGlothern where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
If Malik Nabers and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Malik Nabers in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in No. 37 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Kiran Amegadjie, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Bishop at slot 106, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Marist Liufau in pick 139 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nice patience on Dwight McGlothern, who had no business lasting to the 183rd overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Kingsley Eguakun in pick 223, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Evan Anderson in the 256th overall pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
