New York Giants

The Giants worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The Giants went off the board in a big way for David Ugwoegbu, 112 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Benson.

The veteran additions, Tyron Smith chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
The board had cheaper options than Brian Thomas Jr. at the 15th overall pick, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R1.26 · Pick 26 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 47
Cooper Beebe in pick No. 26 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 44
Chris Braswell in pick 58 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Spencer Rattler · QB · rank 118
They left a pile of value on the table to take Spencer Rattler this early at the 62nd pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 123
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Johnson in Round 3, Pick 8, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 108
Mekhi Wingo at No. 84 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
Cole Bishop at slot 89 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
They read the board right and Max Melton was the payoff at the 93rd pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Trey Benson at Round 4, Pick 7 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Jaylen Harrell · DE-EDGE · rank 208
A big swing on Jaylen Harrell at No. 111, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 129
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in the 131st overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
They took Roger Rosengarten at par in pick 135, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Anthony Gould · WR · rank 142
Anthony Gould is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.28 · Pick 164 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
Nathaniel Watson at pick No. 164 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 183
Jordan Jefferson at pick 165 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 206
A wild overpay on Jared Wiley in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
A slide stopped in the 178th pick, with Walter Rouse worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 172
Jordan Travis at the 183rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · David Ugwoegbu · OLB-EDGE · rank 331
They talked themselves into David Ugwoegbu at pick No. 219, and the board did not agree. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 258
Sam Hartman in No. 223 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
