Nobody had Sam Hartman this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 36 spots to get him at the 230th overall pick. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Clark.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 16th pick they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in pick No. 43, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 45 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Calen Bullock in Round 2, Pick 21. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Braelon Allen at par in No. 73, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylin Simpson at pick 83, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Blake Fisher at the 95th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Audric Estime in No. 109; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid a round early for Donovan Jackson in the 121st pick, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach for T.J. Sanders in pick No. 135; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
