Whoever sat across the table from the Giants should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McConkey. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The veteran additions, Derwin James Jr. chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
Ladd McConkey at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, T'Vondre Sweat in slot 66, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Sedrick Van Pran at par in pick 70, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Mike Sainristil went about where he belonged in pick No. 71. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cade Stover slid further than he should have, and No. 82 is lovely value for the tight end. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Blake Corum in the 88th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Matt Goncalves at pick No. 107, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Bub Means slipping to No. 256 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
