You can hear the double-takes from here. The Jaguars took Jack Pyburn at No. 164, roughly 126 spots before his name belonged.
The Rivers value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jake Slaughter in the 81st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Domonique Orange higher than Round 3, Pick 24, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Daylen Everette, who had no business lasting to slot 100. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land Michael Trigg in No. 124, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Jack Pyburn in pick 164 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Patrick Payton in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Eric Rivers in No. 203, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Isaiah Nwokobia in pick 233, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Kamran James, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Adam Randall. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
