There is reaching, and then there is Theo Johnson at slot 69. The Chargers jumped the board by 55 and dared it to prove them wrong. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Getting King where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Malik Nabers in No. 6 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Amarius Mims in pick 37. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Ladd McConkey in the 47th overall pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Theo Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a running back like Blake Corum reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Mike Sainristil here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Blake Fisher in No. 140 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Kalen King all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Trente Jones at the 225th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on LaDarius Henderson at slot 253, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
