Nobody else had Jalen Travis anywhere near pick No. 220. The Patriots did, by 43 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Starks at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The veteran additions, Micah Parsons chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get juice off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Malaki Starks in pick 38 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Quinshon Judkins in Round 3, Pick 5, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in pick No. 77, with Andrew Mukuba worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Kyren Lacy at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Shilo Sanders, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jalen Travis at slot 220 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
