There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Eric Gentry a full 124 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
The Stukes pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Spending an early pick on safety with interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Jeremiyah Love is a better player than slot 11 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
In No. 30 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Taking Jake Slaughter in the 77th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Chase Bisontis at Round 3, Pick 16 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Mike Washington Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 87th pick is lovely value for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Jake Golday still on the board at the Round 3 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Ja'Kobi Lane went about where he belonged in the 92nd overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Sam Roush come to them and pounced at pick No. 106. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Michael Trigg in pick 112 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A slide stopped in slot 115, with Genesis Smith worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
A want over a need in No. 116: Bud Clark adds a safety while interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Treydan Stukes in Round 4, Pick 30, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Drew Allar at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A big swing on Taylen Green at the 152nd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Demond Claiborne in the 165th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah Jatta at pick 227, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.

Logan Taylor at pick No. 246 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trey Zuhn III at slot 253. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joshua Braun in the Round 7 slot, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; Marvin Jones Jr. in Round 7, Pick 39 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Keaten Wade in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Korey Foreman well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
