The Dolphins clearly saw something nobody else did in Eric Gentry, taking him 125 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McNeil-Warren. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 22
In the 29th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Gabe Jacas · LB-EDGE · rank 52
Gabe Jacas at No. 47 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 53
They took Eli Stowers at par in pick No. 49, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Slaughter reach Round 3, Pick 11 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
Taking Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Elijah Sarratt · WR · rank 77
Elijah Sarratt in pick 82 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
Ted Hurst in slot 87 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Devin Moore · CB · rank 92
Devin Moore in the 90th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 96
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Treydan Stukes. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Ja'Kobi Lane · WR · rank 98
They paid sticker price for Ja'Kobi Lane in pick No. 94, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Mason Reiger · LB-EDGE · rank 147
A real head-scratcher, Mason Reiger in Round 3, Pick 33 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Michael Trigg · TE · rank 115
Michael Trigg at the 115th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Tacario Davis · CB · rank 107
Tacario Davis in No. 120 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Demond Claiborne · RB · rank 161
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Demond Claiborne. It fills a real need, too.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
Value said wait; Drew Allar in pick No. 130 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 186
Taylen Green at Round 4, Pick 31 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · Isaiah World · OT · rank 145
A tidy little value on Isaiah World in No. 148, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Charles Demmings · CB · rank 148
Nothing to complain about; Charles Demmings went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Zxavian Harris · DT · rank 154
No edge and no loss on Zxavian Harris in pick 152; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.22 · Pick 162 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 174
Domani Jackson in the 162nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R5.27 · Pick 167 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 187
A wild overpay on Jeff Caldwell in slot 167, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Anez Cooper · OG · rank 184
A straight-up fair deal on Anez Cooper at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
R6.15 · Pick 196 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 239
Eli Heidenreich at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 352
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eric Gentry well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Riley Mahlman · OT · rank 292
They talked themselves into Riley Mahlman at slot 238, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
