Green Bay Packers

Nobody dealt better than the Packers this weekend: A-.

The Packers torched the value chart for Tim Smith, taking him 56 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

That Egbuka pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

In the end it comes back to Tyler Nubin, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · JC Latham · OT · rank 15
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.32 · Pick 32 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 20
In pick 32 they get a two-high chess piece, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 65
Trey Benson at the 44th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 29
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Johnny Wilson in pick No. 48, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 43
T.J. Tampa slipping to No. 59 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 49
Circle this one: Jordan Morgan at the 71st pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 25
Emeka Egbuka in No. 75 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 99
Braelon Allen at Round 3, Pick 12 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 88
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Hall Jr.. The roster fit checks out.
R3.23 · Pick 86 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 108
Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 120
A big swing on Junior Colson at slot 87, well ahead of any board in the building. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 95
They let Dominick Puni come to them and pounced at pick No. 107. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 84
TreVeyon Henderson in the 111th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · AJ Barner · TE · rank 121
They went early on AJ Barner in pick 112, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Ashton Gillotte · DL-EDGE · rank 164
A wild overpay on Ashton Gillotte in No. 123, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 126
They read the board right and Jaden Hicks was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 35. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 140
Taking Nehemiah Pritchett in the 189th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Connor Colby · OT · rank 157
They barely believed it either: Connor Colby still on the board at pick 190. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.30 · Pick 205 · Graham Mertz · QB · rank 211
They paid sticker price for Graham Mertz in the 205th pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.36 · Pick 211 · Tim Smith · DL · rank 267
They talked themselves into Tim Smith at slot 211, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 272
Value said wait; Justin Eboigbe in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jack Nelson · OT · rank 173
Jack Nelson in pick No. 219 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Joshua Gray · OT · rank 238
Joshua Gray at slot 232 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.28 · Pick 248 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 214
De'Corian Clark at No. 248 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
