There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cardinals took Bryce Foster a full 41 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Perkins Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get a wrecking ball inside. A real need, handled.
Harold Perkins Jr. in Round 2, Pick 8 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid a round early for Cam Ward in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in the 104th pick, with Anthony Belton worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Bryce Foster at the 136th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A tidy bit of business in slot 200, where Ricky White III graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
